Meet Orion Brown: Winner of the 2022 TL Effect
Congratulations, Orion Brown, founder/CEO of BlackTravelBox®, a first-of-its-kind brand focused solely on hair and skin care products for the Black travel market.
Selected from a highly competitive pool of candidates for our fourth cohort of the TL Effect, Brown is a true standout. As the winner of our in-house mentorship program for women of color, she’ll receive a $20,000 grant as well as guidance for six months from ThirdLove’s leadership team to help strategically grow her business.
Denver-based Brown is thrilled with the win. “I’m honored to have been chosen for The TL Effect 2022 Cohort, and I’m excited to continue to grow and scale my business with support from ThirdLove,” she says.
When asked to describe her business, Brown’s standard line is: “Think Away meets Glossier for Black travelers.” Indeed, BlackTravelBox’s products include androgynous balms and bars in travel-friendly packaging that’s carry-on ready. “Our formulations are designed to last longer, travel better. Plus, they’re safe to use. The only thing our customers have to worry about is enjoying the destination,” Brown says.
ICYMI, the Black travel market is nearly a $110B industry, and Brown and her team are poised to capitalize — especially with help from TL’s mentorship program.
“As a new entrepreneur, one of the biggest challenges has been finding accelerators and programming relevant to my business and business model,” explains Brown.
“What excites me about ThirdLove is that it’s where I want to be in five years — having built an e-comm brand, served women, created community, extended past the inaugural product launch and created a platform for change. It’s such a game changer to have a program and mentorship that just fits,” she adds.
We look forward to following Brown on her journey.
